I attended the August 8, 2023 Camden County Commission meeting at 10:00 a.m.

Commissioners Skelton and Gohagan were present. Commissioner Williams arrived later in the meeting.
The first agenda item was July 2023 Tax Abatements.
These abatements were ratified unanimously by the commissioners.
The second agenda item was Request for Surplus Money.
This request was for $15,047.50. This request was reviewed by both the County Attorney and the County Treasurer.
It was approved unanimously.
The final agenda item was Central Turf & Irrigation Supply Quote- Irrigation for Administration Building.
Commissioner Williams arrived during this agenda item.
The Maintenance Department presented a bid for parts to install irrigation for part of the courthouse front lawn. They had already completed part of the irrigation and this would complete the system.
The bid was for $6,107, but Presiding Commissioner Skelton mentioned this would be purchased with next year’s budget. (I’m not quite sure why this item was approved now if it was for next year.)
The Commission unanimously approved this agenda item with the understanding that the quoted cost might be 10% to 15% higher next year.
And that was that.
Don’t forget that the Camden County Tax Sale will be held at the Camden County Courthouse on August 28 at 10:00 a.m. Properties which are 3 years delinquent in property tax will be auctioned. Incredibly, Camden County is currently facing a total of approximately $7 million in delinquent property taxes!
You can look at available properties by visiting the Camden County GIS system and searching on the tax sale layer. Instructions on how to register as a bidder are here.
One warning. It’s very important to do research on a property before you bid on it. Most of these properties are on this delinquent list for a reason. I’m not interested in buying someone else’s headache. I’m just coming to watch the show and even Mrs. Gadfly is looking forward to it.
