The Camden County Gadfly attended the August 24, 2023 Camden County Commission meeting at 10:00 a.m.

All commissioners were present.
The first agenda item was Bid Opening/Acceptance – Sheriff – IT Company.
There was a single bid for this contract. It was from Epic Consulting LLC for $9,856 per month.
The Sheriff’s Office representative stated they advertised the Bid Request in the newspaper.
It turned out that this vendor had already done a lot of work for the Sheriff’s Office. They update the Firewall, run cloud backups of the computer systems, and maintain the desktops. They also handle 60 mobile computer platforms in the vehicles. They are local so they can respond quickly if there are any problems with the computer systems in 911 Dispatch.
The Auditor, Jimmy Laughlin, explained that this contract was actually intended to replace the previous method of payment that was used for these services from this vendor. The vendor who provides these services would essentially remain the same. (Gee, doesn’t seem like a big surprise that Epic found out about the Request For Bid, does it?)
This bid was recommended by the Sheriff’s Office for approval and was approved unanimously by the Commission.
The second agenda item was Requests for Surplus.
Both requests were from Heartland Partners LLC. The first request was for $21,347.76 and the second request was for $34,791.43. Both requests were reviewed by the County Attorney and the County Treasurer.
These Requests were approved unanimously by the Commission.
The final agenda item was Road&Bridge – Discuss Possible Employee Uniform Reimbursement Policy.
Presiding Commissioner Skelton stated that the Commission had cancelled the uniform contract several months ago. To replace that contract, the Commission is considering a $250/year reimbursement for employment-related clothing for each Road&Bridge employee upon presentation of an invoice or receipt.
This would amount to a savings of approximately $20,000 annually for the county. All of the commissioners seemed to be in favor of it, but they left the policy over in their office, so it was unanimously tabled until everyone could get a chance to look at it during the next meeting.
And that was that.
