I attended the October 12, 2023, Horseshoe Bend Special Road District (HBSRD) meeting at 8:00 a.m.

This is the third meeting I’ve attended that addressed the new Toy Box development at the intersection of the Horseshoe Bend Parkway and Bagnell Dam Boulevard.
I wrote about the first meeting at the HBSRD last month here at this link.
Then last week’s Lake Ozark Planning and Zoning meeting at this link.
And finally, I was back at a HBSRD meeting that felt a little more like a typical, quiet road district meeting. There were only a few of us in the chairs.
I’ll cover the highlights.
The HBSRD Board voted unanimously to approve the shared Toy Box driveway entrance with the Blue Heron that was designed by their engineer, Lee Schuman.
The HBSRD Board voted unanimously to direct their attorney, Todd Miller, to draft a letter asking Mary Boer to move the blue fence and gate on her Blue Heron property off of the HBSRD right-of-way.
(I assumed that they wanted this fence moved so construction on the new driveway could begin.)
Doug Apperson, one of the Toy Box developers, was present at the meeting and he showed the Board some preliminary design art for the Toy Box storage units and they looked pretty nice.
And that was that.
I’m pretty confident that this isn’t the end of the controversy for the Toy Box project, but perhaps this will be the end of the beginning of the controversy.
I’ve appreciated all of the comments and support I’ve received for the articles I’ve written about this project. I’ve also had a lot of new readers subscribe to Among the Dogwoods.
I’m a retired active duty US Army Captain and police detective who now spends most of my free time recording my impressions of the activities of the Camden County Commission. In the past three years, I’ve observed and documented over 160 Camden County Commission meetings. I’ve earned the dubious title of The Gadfly of Camden County from my loyal readers and Mrs. Gadfly never fails to remind me that from her perspective, I seem to have unsuccessfully retired.
I’ve also written some Stories and tall Tales about my life and I hope that new readers will be encouraged to read some of them at this link. Enjoy and please stay involved in our community.
