I attended the April 2, 2024, Camden County Commission meeting at 10:00 a.m.
All commissioners were present.
The first agenda item was Discuss Health Dept.’s Verizon Contract.
The proposed plan was to switch the Health Department to a VOIP system. The old plan was for POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) and it was going to cost the county $2,028/month. The new system would cost $747/month.
The Commission approved the new contract unanimously.
The second agenda item was Discuss SpyGlass Findings- Possible Savings Available for Internet Services.
According to Presiding Commissioner Skelton, SpyGlass is a company that reviews your phone and internet plans and determines if you have redundant or unnecessary services. In return for saving the county money, SpyGlass will claim the first year’s savings as their fee for their services. It sounded like their analysis of the county’s telecom expenses would save over $12,000 for the first year.
The SpyGlass contract was approved unanimously.
The third agenda item was Approval/Signing of Certified Copy of Order for Budget Amendments to County Healthcare Fund.
I wrote about the need to add money to the Camden County’s healthcare plan reserve here. These budget amendments would increase the monthly premium the county pays on behalf of each employee by $100. The amendments were a little complex because the money had to be distributed to various funds within the county for the different departments.
These amendments were approved by the commissioners.
The final agenda item was March 2024 tax abatements.
The abatements were approved unanimously.
And that was that.
