I attended the April 18, 2024, Camden County Commission meeting at 10:00 a.m.
Commissioners Gohagan and Skelton were present.
There are now microphones hanging from the ceiling in the meeting room. At least we know the county is finally listening to us.

The first agenda item was 2024 Agreement for Security Services-Ozarks Amphitheater & Sheriff.
This contract was reviewed by the County Attorney and the Sheriff’s office.
The contract was approved unanimously by the Commission.
The second agenda item was Camden County Soil and Water Conservation District Request for Funds.
I’ve never heard of them, but you can read about them here.
They received $6,000 last year.
This item was tabled so the Commission could review the request.
The third agenda item was EMA Subaward Agreement for Generator Load Testing.
EMA received $1,000 from the federal government to load test their generators.
This expenditure was approved unanimously.
The final agenda item was Huber & Associates Contract Renewal for IT Services.
The Huber representative summarized the contract and explained that it would include on-site support for 5 days per week.
Presiding Commissioner Skelton mentioned that they had received reports that one of the Camden County Collector’s wireless printers had been hacked? According to Commissioner Gohagan, it was printing out messages with lots of symbols that said, “Hello” and “I’m watching.”
(As a former cybercrimes detective, I realize that wireless printers are a possible vector that bad actors can use to enter a network and gain access to the county’s crown jewels or conduct a man-in-the-middle attack. I can also tell you that serious hackers don’t usually send you weird messages to let you know they’ve infiltrated your network. This sounds a bit strange.)
It appears that Huber will look into this matter and report back. Possible solutions could be white-listing users or even hardwiring the printers.
The contract was for $27,429 per month. The commissioners voted unanimously to renew the annual contract with terms fixed for 3 years.
And that was that.
I had no idea IT services could cost that much!
Thanks for your continued coverage of meetings around the area!
