July 1, 2024, Camden County Commission meeting at 10:00 a.m.

I attended the July 1, 2024, Camden County Commission meeting at 10:00 a.m.

All commissioners were present.

The meeting was on a Monday because it was the quarterly road petition meeting. This is the meeting that occurs at the beginning of every three month term where property owners apply to have unnecessary county roads on their property vacated by the Commission. They have to obtain signatures from other neighbors and the Commission makes sure that vacating the county’s responsibility for the roadway doesn’t inadvertently landlock any other property owners.

The first couple wanted to vacate a county road in the Purvis View subdivision. They had posted notices around their property and talked to their neighbors about it. Unfortunately, they didn’t get signatures from those neighbors. They asked when they could return with the required documentation?

Commissioner Williams told them they would have to come back at the next road petition meeting. They were frustrated that they would have to wait another three months, but Williams explained that there was a statutory requirement that any such proposal to vacate a county roadway be tabled until the next term’s meeting.

Nobody else was in attendance to speak for or against the proposed road vacation.

There was also a woman and her attorney at the meeting to oppose a road petition from the Silers, but it appeared that the petition was not on the agenda. After some research, the commissioners were unable to locate the petition in question so the meeting was adjourned.

And that was that.
