I attended the March 27, 2025, Camden County Commission meeting at 10:00 a.m.
Commissioners Skelton and Dougan were present.
The agenda was re-organized because the contractor for the Willow Creek Bridge had not arrived yet.
The first agenda item was “Various Camden County Board Appointments/Reappointments.”
Darian Decker was re-appointed to the Wastewater Variance Board.
Brett Schafersman was appointed to the Camden County Sewer Board.
Tom Spradling and John Mackey were re-appointed to the Planning and Zoning Commission.
(Regular readers will remember that it is NOT the Planning and Zoning Board. In the Unified Land Use Code, it is called the Planning Commission or the Planning and Zoning Commission. Sniff.)
The commissioners are still looking for a Planning and Zoning Commission member who can represent Sunrise Beach. ( So set your Facebook account settings to private and email them to let them know you’re interested!)
Jim Rogers and Marie Brown were re-appointed to the Senior Citizens’ Service Fund Board. Lorri Roth was appointed to the same board.
All the appointments were approved unanimously.
The second agenda item was “Surplus Request.”
This was a request for surplus funds from a tax purchase. It was reviewed and approved by the County Attorney and the County Treasurer.
The commissioners unanimously approved the request.
The third agenda item was “ClearGov Decision.”
Presiding Commissioner Skelton stated that they were not willing to pay $30,000 for the ClearGov budget software. Commissioner Dougan concurred.
The final agenda item was “Willow Creek Bridge Pre-Construction Meeting.”
Shannon Howe, the county’s road engineer, was present from Howe Engineering. He introduced Wayne Brenneke as the contractor who will be building the bridge.
The bridge is not big enough to be on MODOT’s inspection list. It’s not eligible for BRO funding because it isn’t over 20 feet long. The new bridge (Camden County Bridge No 1670008) will be a 60 foot long girder bridge with a pavement deck. The deadline for completion of the project is October 31, 2025. There is a clause for liquidated damages if the project completion exceeds the deadline.
Wayne Brennecke stated he plans to start on May 1, 2025. The road will not be closed during construction because they’re building the new bridge in a different location. The road will, however, be closed for through traffic.
Howe stated they will provide the Commission with photographs of the progress of the bridge construction.
(The cost of the construction of this bridge is approximately $500,000.)
And that was that.
