July 24, 2025, Camden County Commission meeting at 10:00 a.m.

I attended the July 24, 2025, Camden County Commission meeting at 10:00 a.m.

All commissioners were present.

The first agenda item was “EMA – Memorandum of Understanding with DNR.”

John Scheper, the Director of the Camden County Emergency Management Agency, explained that SEMA has the funds available to place three warning sirens in the State Park. The funds would be given to the county once they have completed the bidding process. The grant has a maximum cap of $150,000 available.

Presiding Commissioner Skelton read the MOU and questioned the language in the document. He felt that it made it sound like the county had approached DNR about putting the sirens in, but DNR was the agency requesting the sirens.

Commissioner Gohagan asked Scheper who would manage the project?

Scheper replied that the vendor would set the poles for three solar-powered sirens. The batteries would need to be replaced every two years and EMA would conduct a study to determine the best locations for the sirens. The sirens would be controlled from the EMA Office and the Sheriff’s Office. The system is also able to conduct a “silent test” every day to verify it is working.

The intended purpose of these new sirens would be to alert people camping in the State Park to dangerous weather conditions and other emergencies.

The Commission approved the Memorandum of Understanding unanimously.

The second agenda item was “Camden County Credit Cards.”

A representative from Central Bank explained to the Commission the benefits of combining all of the county’s credit cards under a single system offered by Central Bank. The county would receive a percentage of the credit card revenue share from the purchases. It would also provide quicker payments to county vendors. Accounts could be easily reviewed and the system offered a variety of fraud prevention and security features.

The Commission voted unanimously to move the county’s credit card services to the Central Bank platform.

And that was that.
