August 28, 2025, Camden County Commission meeting at 10:00 a.m.

I attended the August 28, 2025, Camden County Commission meeting at 10:00 a.m.

All commissioners were present.

I just wanted to point out that since Commissioner Dougan was elected, the Commission has had full attendance for almost all of their meetings.

It was mentioned that the Camden County Commission would be featured guests at the Camden County Republican Club meeting on September 16 at 6:30 p.m. There was no word on whether they would also be attending meetings at the Camden County Democrat Club or the Pachyderm Club.

The first agenda item was “3rd Public Hearing – Willow Creek Road.”

Some residents were present to oppose the installation of stop signs at the intersection of Colorado Bobs Drive and Willow Creek Road. They had contacted Tony Hatfield, the current Transportation Director for Camdenton School District. According to them, Hatfield was not aware of any prohibitions or restrictions the school district had placed on buses picking up at the intersection. They would prefer a “Dangerous Intersection” warning sign or additional speed limit signs to the stop signs.

Other residents advocated for the stop signs. They felt that while the locals obeyed the speed limit, it was ignored by those using the road as a shortcut.

Commissioner Gohagan made it clear that speed bumps were not an option. Camden County had already been sued for installing speed bumps in a roadway and nobody wanted to put their paw near the fire again and revisit that legal adventure.

Commissioner Dougan was out there that very morning and was nearly hit by a vehicle that was driving too fast. This experience was fresh enough in his mind to convince him.

While the commissioners realized that the stop sign could cause new problems, they agreed that it was probably the most affordable response to the complaints. Commissioner Dougan stated that they could always change it back.

The Commission voted unanimously to place two stop signs at the intersection. Once they’re installed, the road will be striped.

The second agenda item was “Bid Award – 250821 – Transportation Treatment Court.”

Judge Koeppen wanted to use Millennial Transportation Service for the transportation service for Treatment Court.

(Probably a smart choice to not hire “You Drink We Drive” just for the perception factor.)

The Commission approved this bid unanimously.

In Old Business, Presiding Commissioner Skelton mentioned that they planned to withdraw the current RFQ for a new Health Department building because a better option might have come up. They will have Rick Bryant do the hazardous material testing on the Rock House.

This was approved by the Commission unanimously.

And that was that.
