October 7, 2025, Camden County Commission meeting at 10:00 a.m.

I attended the October 7, 2025, Camden County Commission meeting at 10:00 a.m.

All commissioners were present.

The first agenda item was “1st Public Hearing – Reduce speed limit on Tall Timbers Drive.”

Residents explained that it is a gravel road with a blind curve with children who play near the roadway.

They are requesting a reduction from 35 MPH to 15 MPH, a “Slow Children” sign, and a “Dead End” sign.

There was no opposition.

The second agenda item was “1st Public Hearing – Reduce speed limit on Keystone Drive.”

Nobody was present at the meeting for or against this.

The third agenda item was “Sheriff bid award – 250930 Inmate Medical Services.”

According to the Sheriff’s representative, Southern Health was the lowest bid, but that bid did not include the cost for mental health services.

Cardinal was the second lowest bid. It is a Missouri company and the jail’s current doctor works for Cardinal. He recommended that the Commission accept the Cardinal bid.

The Commission unanimously accepted the bid from Cardinal.

The final agenda item was “Possible Mural Location.”

Commissioner Gohagan suggested a mural could be painted on the courthouse’s second floor next to the 9-11 Mural.

Commissioner Dougan felt that that any mural should have more of a connection to Camden County. He thought the county needed a policy regarding which pictures or murals should be displayed. He did not have any particular preference for a location, but he suggested they might establish an “Honor Wall” that could highlight Camden County’s veterans.

Presiding Commissioner Skelton wanted the Charlie Kirk Mural to be painted right outside the doors of the Commission meeting room. He felt that the Commission’s generous public comment policies encouraged transparency and free speech, values that Kirk represented.

Commissioner Gohagan made a motion to have the Charlie Kirk Mural painted on the third floor outside the Commission meeting room.

Commissioner Dougan voted No and said that he didn’t know if such a mural should be in the courthouse. He admitted he had changed his mind from their previous vote, but he just wanted the courthouse to be very professional. He stressed that he was not opposed to Charlie Kirk in any way.

Skelton seconded the motion and it passed 2-1 with Commissioner Dougan dissenting.

And that was that.
