November 20, 2025, Camden County Commission meeting at 10:00 a.m.

I attended the November 20, 2025, Camden County Commission meeting at 10:00 a.m.

All commissioners were present.

The first agenda item was “Planning and Zoning Hearing: PZ25-0153 & 0154 Duenke Real Estate LLC – Rezone R-1 to B-2.”

The owner was requesting the rezone for the property so he could build a private office on the property for their use.

Nobody else was present to argue for or against the rezone.

The Commission approved the rezone unanimously.

The second agenda item was “Charlie Kirk Mural RFP Opening.”

There was one bid from Kelly Smith. It would be a 4 foot by 6 foot canvas painting that would be mounted on the wall outside of the Commission meeting room. Smith estimated it would take 4 to 6 weeks to complete the mural. The bid quoted $3,000 for labor and $500 for materials.

Commissioner Gohagan asked how much money the Commission had remaining in the Passport Account? Jordan informed him that the account had a balance of $4,644.

Commissioner Skelton stressed that he did not want the painting to look like a caricature image of Kirk. He wanted it to really look like him. The commissioners seemed impressed with the samples that Smith provided with her bid.

Commissioner Gohagan made a motion to accept the bid. Commissioner Dougan refused to second the motion. Presiding Commissioner Skelton then seconded the motion.

Commissioner Dougan explained that his reluctance had nothing to do with his feelings about Charlie Kirk. He preferred to establish an “Honor Wall” and would rather have a tribute that would be more related to Camden County.

Commissioner Gohagan asked Dougan what he might have in mind? Commissioner Dougan responded that he didn’t have any ideas “off the top of his head.” Gohagan inquired if Dougan wanted them to pay for a mural in honor of Dick Cheney?

Commissioner Dougan replied that he wanted to establish a policy that would dictate how the Commission would decide whose names belonged on the Honor Wall.

Presiding Commissioner Skelton commented that there was plenty of available wall space in the building to honor people. He did not think it was a “this or that” thing. He felt like the Commission could fund a Kirk tribute and still establish an Honor Wall. Skelton and Gohagan then voted to accept the bid for the Kirk memorial and it passed 2-1.

The final agenda item was “Discuss 2026 Holiday Schedule for County/Employees/Offices.”

This was a pretty straightforward discussion. The only significant changes were that Camden County will make Christmas Eve a holiday and Juneteenth was not included in this year’s holiday schedule.

And that was that.
