I attended the February 3, 2026, Camden County Commission meeting at 10:00 a.m.
Commissioners Gohagan and Dougan were present.
Commmissioner Gohagan insisted that Commissioner Dougan should lead the meeting and Commissioner Dougan reluctantly agreed. This resulted in a new land speed record record for the quickest Camden County Commission meeting in history.
The first agenda item was “Discussion of updating Road & Bridge’s phone system for offices.”
The landline for the Road and Bridge Department has not been working very well, but the vendor from Missouri Bell was sick and couldn’t attend the meeting.
The second agenda item was “2026 Missouri Bell Telecom annual contract for services.”
Same problem as above. Same vendor. Same illness.
The Commission voted to table both agenda items.
And that was that.
In other news, I located the magic-powered COVID UV fairy dust emitter machines that were supposed to be used in the jail, courtrooms, and county offices to eradicate deadly viruses. They now reside in the old, abandoned Treasurer’s Office, looking sad and lonely. The good news is that the abandoned room is most likely COVID-free.
In the March 8, 2022, Commission meeting, Sheriff Helms had asked the Commission for $81,704.12 to buy these two machines. The county used ARPA money for them. The company provided a presentation for them at the November 9, 2021 meeting.
I tried to get Matt to put his tongue on the tall one for the photo, but Matt declined. I explained that it would provide some sense of scale for the photo, but Matt is too smart.
I guess some risks are just too great to take. Even for a laugh. Even in Hooterville.
