August 24, 2021 Camden County Commission meeting at 10:00 a.m.

All commissioners were present.

There were a few folks present at the meeting besides the usual Camden County employees.

The single agenda item was for Budget Amendments.

The Auditor brought three budget amendments before the Commission.

The first amendment was to move $294 from Courts computer maintenance so one of the judges could get a new robe. (I’m not joking)

This passed unanimously.

The second amendment was to move $75,000 to the Commission for legal fees.

This was approved unanimously.

The third amendment was to move $300 to pay for mileage and training for Waste Water employee mileage and training.

This was approved unanimously.

Upcoming amendments will be related to the Medical Examiner’s desperate need for new shirts and handbags and stuff for Road and Bridge.

And that was that.

I spoke to the Auditor after the meeting and he told me he expects that the Commission-approved 2021 raises for the Camden County Sheriff’s deputies will take affect in late September 2021. New revenue can be moved to cover that expense on November 1, 2021. The required amount will be pretty close to the estimated $250,000 and the previous vague Commission budget amendment should authorize this transfer of funds. He checked with a legal expert and feels the funds can be moved legally.

After the meeting adjourned, I also spoke to the Camden County Collector, Teresa Murray, and she and her deputy patiently explained to me how the Camden County Tax Sale works and how surplus funds are processed. I had a lot of questions, but they were very helpful. They are just one more example of excellent, knowledgable Camden County employees. She did seem a bit hesitant to talk to me at first but I think she warmed up to me after a while. I’m not that bad of a guy, right?
