September 26, 2024, Camden County Commission meeting at 10:00 a.m.

I attended the September 26, 2024, Camden County Commission meeting at 10:00 a.m.

As a sidebar, I wanted to mention that I have now attended and described 220 Camden County Commission meetings on this blog. The first article I ever wrote was on March 30, 2021. I generally do most of my advertising for the blog on Nextdoor or Facebook, but you can directly subscribe to the blog to get email alerts whenever I write something new.

One press of the blue button, and you’ll be the life of any Camden County cocktail party. Your spouse might look over at you and think, “I never knew he was so politically savvy. I assumed he was just checking his Fuel Saver points on his phone.” It could change your life.

And don’t forget to check out some of my other stories about my days as a police officer and a soldier in the Stories and Tall Tales Section.

Now, back to the meeting.

Commissioners Gohagan and Skelton were present.

The first agenda item was “240924 Health Insurance Broker bid opening.”

Five different bids for health insurance broker were submitted.

The Commission voted unanimously to table this item so they could review the different bids.

The second agenda item was “Horseshoe Bend Special Road District funds allocation.”

This item would transfer $100,000 from the Camden County Road and Bridge budget line to the Horseshoe Bend Special Road District.

Commissioner Gohagan stated that the HBSRD special levy has been in place since the 1960’s. The road district has been very careful with its money, but rising costs have reduced their number of employees from 11 to 8. This $100,000 transfer will allow them to fund and keep one of their employee positions.

Presiding Commissioner Skelton said that he hopes the condition of the economy will turn around with the results of upcoming national elections. He also mentioned that the money from the county’s marijuana tax goes solely to Camden County Road and Bridge.

This transfer was approved unanimously by the Commission.

And that was that.
