I attended the June 30, 2026, Camden County Commission meeting at 10:00 a.m.

All commissioners were present.
The first agenda item was “Bid Opening – 260630 Grocery Supply.”
This was a bid for the groceries used by the county jail. There was only a single bid from Springfield Grocers. Presiding Commissioner candidate Nick Sherrell was very complimentary about the quality of the jail’s potato chips. He claimed he had tasted them at a Sheriff’s Office picnic. The young man might be more mysterious than I initially suspected.
Chief Deputy Hines explained that this was the same vendor the Sheriff’s Office used last year and he recommended that the Commission should approve the bid.
The bid was approved unanimously by the Commission.
The second and third agenda items were “Surplus Funds Request – $48,480.85” and Surplus Funds Request – $169,906.29.”
Both surplus requests were reviewed by the County Treasurer and the County Attorney. The County Attorney stated that the properties were redeemed by the son of the same property owner. Sarah Lipp, an attorney contracted by the county for real estate matters, also reviewed these surplus requests.
Both requests were approved unanimously by the Commission.
The final agenda item was “Ordinance 6-10-25-2 (amendment to Ordinance 6-10-25-1 to correct a numerical error).”
There was a minor typographical error on the ordinance to reduce the speed limit on Business Park Road. The error was discovered by the eagle-eyed administrative staff at the Commission Office.
The Commission voted unanimously to correct the ordinance.
In other business, Commissioner Gohagan said that he emailed the County Auditor asking him to re-open the county budget. The Road and Bridge Budget in particular has exceeded its projected appropriations by approximately $500,000 mostly due to Spring weather and the attempts to repair the collapsed road on Ozark Isle. The County Auditor was not present at the meeting.
Commissioner Skelton and Dougan were receptive to re-opening the budget and it was suggested that the budget might be reviewed in mid-July.
And that was that.
