I attended the August 13, 2026, Camden County Commission meeting at 10:00 a.m.

Commissioner Skelton and Dougan were present.

The first agenda item was “Treasurer’s Request for Blessing to be Appointed to MOCA Board.”

Kendra asked the Commission to appoint her to the MOCA Board. She was appointed unanimously.

The second agenda item was “Bid Decision for Assessor’s Office Jeep.”

There were two bids for the Jeep.

The Chief Deputy for the Assessor recommended that the Commission accept the bid for $575 because the Jeep has a bad motor and is “blowing smoke.” This price is a salvage/parts price.

The Commission accepted this bid unanimously.

After the agenda was completed, Presiding Commissioner Skelton took a minute to notify the crowd that the rumor that he was going to be newly elected County Auditor Kris Franken’s Chief Deputy was false.

In Public Comment, a resident of Big Island Drive asked to speak to the Commission.

He was under the impression that Big Island Drive was on the county’s list of top 10 roads that need to be re-paved so he was wondering why their road hadn’t been paved yet? He had heard that other county roads had already been paved, but some political squabble was holding up the Big Island Drive project. Another resident commented that if the money had been appropriated for the project, what had happened? It had previously been approved by three commissioners, but now he has been told that only two commissioners support it?

Presiding Commissioner Skelton explained that it had been the intention of the Commission to re-pave that road, but they were waiting to hear what impact the Ozark Isle Drive washout would have on the budget. The county is in discussions with FEMA concerning how much FEMA money they will receive for the repairs.

Commissioner Dougan said that the county has low water crossings and other roads that need repair. He clarified that when he approved the re-paving of Big Island Drive, he did not know about all of the other roads that needed repair just as badly.
