October 6, 2021 Camden County Commission meeting at 10:00 a.m.

All three Commissioners were present. The following is a summary of the meeting.

There were only a few people present in the audience for this meeting besides the normal county employees. I did bring my wife to her first Commission meeting because she wanted to shop for furniture in Camdenton and if I was going to have to sit through that, she was sure as heck going to have to sit through a Commission meeting!

Presiding Commissioner Hasty opened up with a proposal to change the agenda and add an “emergency” closed session at the end regarding the pending Rinne case pursuant to Subsection 1 of the Sunshine Law.

This was approved unanimously.

The first agenda item was for Emergency Equipment. The Horseshoe Bend Special Road District purchased an emergency crash trailer that will be used throughout Camden County. The item was to reimburse the road district $20,990 for the purchase of the trailer.

This was approved unanimously.

The representative from the Road District gave the commissioners the financial report for the Horseshoe Bend Special Road District. She explained that they are not “swimming in money” as some have claimed. All of their current money is earmarked for planned projects. In fact their operating fund is currently low. It is normally a $1.3 million annual budget, but it was lower this year.

Commissioner Hasty commented on what a great job the Horseshoe Bend Road District does on the roads on Horseshoe Bend and took credit for ensuring that they were given money back that had been taken from them before he took office.

She did a great job and I don’t think she expected to have to answer questions before the Commission. My wife and I were impressed.

The second agenda item was for September tax abatements. They were approved and signed by the Commission.

The Commission then did a roll call vote to go into closed session.

And that was that.

I introduced my wife to all of the Commissioners and now she knows what I’m really doing on my Tuesday and Thursday mornings.

  1. When they came out of closed session, did they announce what action was taken or what the purpose was for closing the session?
